Homoeoprophylaxis and Integrative Healthcare

Written By: admin - Dec• 03•11

By Gwyneth Evans

Dr Isaac Golden was originally trained in economics and company finance. He started homeopathic practice in 1984, began teaching homeopathy in 1988 and in 1990 formed his own college of homeopathy.  Dr Golden’s recent work has focused on homoeoprophylaxis – which is the use of homoeopathic medicines to prevent disease.

He began his homeoprophylaxis programme (HP) in 1985 and began his HP research and data collection the following year.

In 2004 Dr Golden completed a doctorate through Swinburne University, Melbourne, Australia which utilised HP data from 1986 – 2004, plus a general health study survey collected during the  period of doctoral research, which was from 2000 – 2004.  Overall the period of doctorate research was 1986-2004

Homeoprophylaxis  (HP) may also be termed homeopathic immunisation.

When asked what prompted the study and use of HP, Isaac replied:

“My interest in disease prevention methods began when my daughter was vaccine damaged in 1980, before I knew about homeopathy. When I found that Samuel Hahnemann (the founder of the principles and method of homeopathy) had used homeopathy for immunisation in 1798, I wanted to develop a programme of HP to give parents choices for their children; choices that I hadn’t had. I realised there was very little organised research, though there were 200 years of clinical experience. I started data collection using questionnaires sent to people who were using the HP programme.

Benefits and efficacy

Dr Golden’s research and data from many other researchers internationally now give a strong base indicating the level of effectiveness of HP at around 90% (comparable with effectiveness of vaccinations) but without the risk of toxic side-effects—either short- or long-term.

In last few years HP has been used to protect millions of people in Cuba; first against leptospirosis and later against swine flu.

2.4 million in 2007 (against leptospirosis)

2.2 million in 2008 (against leptospirosis)

9.8 million in  2009/10 (against A/H1N1 influenza or “swine flu”)

So we now have HP interventions proving highly effective in large regions and nationally. We have reached the point where we can answer critics who say that there is no evidence of the effectiveness of HP.

Dr Golden states: “After over 26 years of clinical practice I have found homeopathy to offer both high level effectiveness and safety in treatment of ill health as well as prevention of disease.”

While no one modality can do ALL that is needed in a health care system, homeopathy has a major role to play in the public health system in both New Zealand and Australia, just as it does in many countries in Europe, South America and the India sub-continent.

Economics

The question was put to Isaac as to where he sees future directions for research?

“Although I am a homeopath, I look at development of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) as a whole where all proven modalities are incorporated into the national health system in appropriate ways. I believe that the impetus for this to occur will come from research into economic impacts on the nation. The cost savings and health benefits that will come from an integrated and balanced health system will make its introduction inevitable, especially given the budget projections in developed countries showing that the existing health model will become unaffordable within the next two decades and possibly sooner.”

“In 2002, Access Economics, Australia’s leading economic research organisation, recently undertook a limited study of the budgetary implications of using CAM therapies in a small number of conditions. Their research showed that significant savings were possible. If this was extended over all proven CAM, NZ would potentially save hundreds of millions of dollars annually in their budget.”

“It must be remembered that CAM, in general, can assist not only with treatment of existing conditions but also with prevention of chronic conditions in future. Both these savings need to be quantified to gain an accurate picture for budgetary implications.” For example, in conventional medical treatment of diabetes there is not only the cost of drugs for the present condition but also the future costs of treatment for problems which arise out of that present condition.

The only way we can ensure eventual inclusion of proven CAM into the health system is to ensure our standards are kept at an appropriately high level. Governments will not deal with national organisations which do not strictly scrutinise the competencies and ethics of their members.

Since its launch in May, 2011, The New Zealand Journal of Natural Medicine has taken its place among NZ’s most enlightening magazines.

It’s one of those rare magazines that actually dares to go where other “health” magazines simply don’t.

“It’s uniquely serious yet it’s still accessible.”

This quip from Katherine Smith, Editor, is to the point.

So, she says, don’t be be put off by the word “journal”.

“It’s one of the most readable magazines out there.

The NZ Journal of Natural Medicine is devoted to informing our readers what’s ‘out there’ in the way of vital health information that may be getting ignored or even unfairly disparaged by mainstream medicine and media alike.”

The contentious issue of vaccines features prominently in every issue of the magazine, along with excellent articles on nutritional therapies, homoeopathy, herbal medicine, and new and promising technologies like EECP cardio-vascular therapy and Scenar frequency therapy, both of which have proven to be highly successful in various applications.

Katherine and husband Jonathan Eisen (the publisher of the Journal) have been writing and editing books and magazines for many years.

Katherine is probably best known as the author of The Cancer Prevention Handbook, and Jonathan for his book Suppressed Inventions and Other Discoveries.

They both saw the serious need for an honest, intelligent health magazine which prompted them to launch The NZ Journal of Natural Medicine earlier this year.

“More people than ever are taking responsibility for their own health, rather than relying on a system that is increasingly showing signs of a paradigm meltdown,” says Eisen.

The new issue is on sale November 6, throughout NZ and around November 21 in Australia.

This issue is packed full of information you won’t want to miss, including the connection between fluoride and fibromyalgia, the link between candida and premature ageing and a great introduction to alternative treatments for cancer.

For parents, the issue features an article by Michael Sichel ND, DO on the benefits of fever, gives an update on the MMR-autism controversy and also includes a guide to the new meningococcal C vaccine, asking the question of whether or not people are really able to make an “informed consent” given the information doctors and the Ministry of Health are providing.

For her column “Better Health on a Shoe String” editor Katherine Smith has written “Grow Your Own First Aid Kit”, while new columnist Amy McComb explores the magic of Tanekaha, New Zealand’s premiere native plant for the liver.

There are many other articles – including causes and treatments for the common cold by contributing editor Lady Carla Davis, the real long term dangers of antibiotics, as well as what to do if a relative in hospital needs intravenous vitamin C and staff balk at this potentially life-saving treatment – and much, much more in this 100 page issue.

The new issue of The New Zealand Journal of Natural Medicine features articles designed to help keep you healthy as well as information that could make the difference between living with a chronic illness – or recovering and moving on with your life.

With the recent cases of measles reported in the media, one of the cover stories for this issue “What’s More Dangerous – Measles or the Vaccine?” examines the risks of a natural measles infection versus the MMR vaccine, including the controversial link between this vaccine and autism.

Continuing on the subject of autism, this issue features a review of Michel Sichel’s book Good News for the Alphabet Kids in which he describes the biomedical programme that he has used to treat autistic children with significant improvement in their health and behaviour – in most cases. This  treatment approach can also be helpful for children with ADHD.

Adults aren’t forgotten in this issue, with articles about how Traditional Chinese Medicine can treat endometriosis, how Ginkgo biloba can ward off age-related health problems and a promising non-surgical treatment for cataracts and much, much more.

The lead story in the first issue of The New Zealand Journal of Natural Medicine is how to protect yourself from radiation poisoning. It also features articles on how a new technology known as “EECP” can help the body create new blood vessels and heal cardiovascular disease. Did you know that vitamin D can reduce the risk of developing cancer? This article has the facts. Did you also know that “Black Salve” can often successfully treat skin (and some other) cancers? The amazing healing powers of ozone have been known for more than 100 years, and yet few if anyone in this part of the world knows about them. Here’s your chance.

The first issue also features the story of Allan Smith, his near-death experience with swine flu – and his remarkable recovery after he was administered intravenous vitamin C.

Are mammograms “useless”? The new research indicates that there is little evidence for their efficacy in preventing deaths from breast cancer in most women who undergo regular mammographic screening. In addition, mamograms may themselves be carcinogenic. We bring you the unadulterated facts for you to make up your own mind.

These are facts you will seldom if ever hear from the Ministry of Health … or your own doctor.

Still believe that cholesterol is “bad”? This article will open your eyes.

There is lots more in this amazing new magazine, including articles on Wendy Lydall’s book How to Raise a Vaccine Free Child, what’s behind the insomnia epidemic, the war on thermography … and much, much more.

Launch of The New Zealand Journal of Natural Medicine

Written By: katherine - Apr• 01•11

The official launch of The New Zealand Journal of Natural Medicine was held at the Grey Lynn Community Centre, 510 Richmond Rd, Auckland, New Zealand  on Saturday, May 7th from 2 – 5.30pm.

Editors Jonathan Eisen and Katherine Smith spoke about the role that they hope The New Zealand Journal of Natural Medicine will play in empowering New Zealanders to live longer and healthier lives.  Contributing editor Allison Roe spoke about the importance of people having the knowledge that they need to maintain and improve their own health.

The launch also featured several special guests.

Will Hinchcliff from Primary Heart Care spoke about how  he learned about EECP therapy when he was an elite level sportsman in the USA and decided to bring the technology to New  Zealand.  He was joined by music legend Ray Columbus who shared his story of how his extensive cardiovascular disease (caused by years of heavy smoking) was reversed by EECP therapy, while diabetes patient educator Jim Cribb explained how the treatment saved his leg from amputation.

Herbalist Malcom Harker, who is relaunching his iconic brand of  traditional herbal medicines gave a moving speech about his life and work.

Mike Cushman spoke about how the government funded National Screening Unit colluded with other organisations to try to destroy the small businesses offering thermography services to NZ women who want a radiation-free means of monitoring their breast health.

Dr Mike Godfrey who was the pioneer of breast thermography services in NZ also spoke at the launch, relating how a patient of his had introduced him to this technology.  He also explained the basics of  the science of thermography.

The final speaker for the day was farmer Allan Smith who is now famous worldwide for surviving white-out pneumonia and hairy cell leukaemia after his family refused to allow his life support to be turned off (as his doctors had recommended) but insisted that he be given the high dose intravenous vitamin C that cured him.   Allan has now become an eloquent advocate for the rights of patients to receive vitamin C treatment and spoke about how he has helped other people survive bad prognoses.

The editors and staff of The New Zealand Journal of Natural Medicine would like to thank the many people who attended the launch for their support – especially those who traveled so far to join us in the celebration of the publication of the first issue of the journal.

Video footage of the launch (in a raw, uncut version) may now be viewed at the following link on Youtube:
